"I think the best evenings are when we have messages, things that make us think, but we can also laugh and enjoy each others' company", says Jane Goodall, on what's in store for everyone gracing "An Evening with Jane Goodall - Celebrating 90", at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday 12th April 2024. She may sound so light and casual about describing an evening that would honor her journey and milestones, but that's because she has embraced and normalized her commitment to raising awareness for the global conservation of the environment, the protection of animal welfare, empowering human kindness and positivity. She aims to make this evening an enjoyable experience that will encourage people to make a difference and be inspired to make our planet more sustainable.
Dr. Jane Goodall is the leading and one of the pioneering experts in primatology and a well-respected anthropologist. In 1960, she started doing extensive research as well as hands-on and onsite observations on the social and family life of chimpanzees. "It isn't only human beings who have personality, who are capable of rational thought [and] emotions like joy and sorrow," says Dr. Goodall. Her large body of knowledge, experience, and scientific discoveries have bestowed her with awards and accolades that recognize her humanitarian and environmental contributions such as bestowing her the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world. Even contemporary pop culture institutions like Walt Disney also found a place to pay homage to her astounding contribution with a plaque on the Tree of Life at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom theme park. Beside the plaque is a carving of one of her beloved and original chimpanzees, David Greybeard, who moved to approach her during her first year at the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. As founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme, Dr. Jane Goodall continues to deliver her mission and vision to multiple generations in many parts of the world.
