Legendary singer-songwriter Elvis Costello is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who emerged in the early ‘70s. At the beginning of his career, he started performing in the local rock scene in London. Costello eventually transitioned into one of the leading purveyors of the new wave movement and British punk. He made his breakthrough in 1977 upon releasing his debut album, My Aim is True. The critically-acclaimed record is regarded as one of Costello’s best works. The album features a unique blend of punk rock, rockabilly, British pub rock, and ‘50s style rock and roll. This music, through singles “Alison,” “Less Than Zero,” and “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes,” would leave a lasting legacy on the new wave scene and influence the next generation of musicians.

After a phenomenal debut, Costello began working with his backup band, The Attractions. He released his sophomore effort, This Year’s Model, in 1978 and soared to number 4 on the U.K. chart. By this time, Costello had broken through the mainstream scene, and articles about “a new king of rock & roll” started circulating worldwide. Armed with incredible singles like “Pump It Up” and “(I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea,” Costello definitely proved his mark as the new king. And the best part was that it was only the beginning of an unbelievably phenomenal career.

Costello moved on to release 11 more studio albums with Attractions. Many of the albums spawned several chart-performing singles, including timeless Costello staples “Oliver’s Army,” “I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down,” “Good Year for the Roses,” and “Everyday I Write the Book.” Costello’s amazing work with the Attractions eventually led to an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. During the ceremony, the induction speech led by Elton John celebrated Costello’s contributions to music and highlighted his ability to write music with no boundaries.

In 2002, Costello released his 19th album, When I Was Cruel. The album was later promoted with a tour, which brought along the backup band, The Imposters. The following year, Costello released his first album to enter and top Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart. North is an intimate ballad-filled record inspired by his intimate relationships. In addition to debuting at number 1 on the Jazz chart, North also entered the Billboard 200, peaking at number 57.

In 2004, Costello resumed his rock and roll music by returning to the studio and bringing along his new backup band, The Imposters. Together, they released Costello’s 21st studio album, The Delivery Man. Four years later, The Imposters were brought in again to belt out another incredible effort, Momofuku. The album featured the single “Song with Rose,” which Costello performed with Johnny Cash’s daughter Rosanne Cash. Acclaimed singer Jenny Lewis from the now dissolution band Rilo Kiley also served in several tracks.

This 2023, Costello will be promoting his latest album with the Imposters. Released last year, The Boy Named If performed phenomenally on the U.K. chart and entered two Billboard charts. You can catch one of the greatest rock singer-songwriters of all time by securing your tickets to Costello’s show Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Tickets are now up for grabs!
