Orville Peck [CANCELLED] at Queen Elizabeth Theatre

Wearing flashy masks, Orville Peck stands out among the outlaw country musicians with his additions of goth and indie rock styles to his enigmatic music. Inspired by classic country, especially from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, he has crafted tunes that are distinctly his own.

Daniel Pitout, before he was professionally known as Orville Peck, started performing at a young age. He is partly a self-taught musician, picking up a guitar and a Casio keyboard at 15. Early on in his life, he was exposed to voice work and voiced cartoon characters due to his father's job as a sound engineer. His emergence in the music industry started when he got cast in roles for touring musicals.

In the 2010s, Orville decided to dip his feet into being a solo artist. While working in a coffee shop and living with his parents, he started to work on his first album. His debut was a long work as he "wrote, produced and played every instrument he could" to perfect it. The album, which was entitled "Pony," came out in 2019. Many critics found his style refreshing, a "palate cleanser" in the country scene due to its uniqueness and intimacy. In 2020, the album brought him the Juno Award for the category of Alternative Album of the Year. In 2022, his sophomore "Bronco" came out. The album received universal acclaim, which many critics connect to his more polished arrangements and lyricism. Harry West of NME took note that the track appears "wholly modern and proudly queer" – a showcase of how true to himself Orville is as an artist.
