The Shins are an indie rock band known for their monumental hit, “New Slang.” The single was featured in the band’s debut album, Oh, Inverted World, released in 2001. The record served as their breakthrough into the mainstream when it entered the Billboard 200 chart. Three years after the album’s release, the film Garden State featured “New Slang.” The main character referred to the track as the “song that will change your life.” This led to a significant increase in record sales, making Oh, Inverted World The Shins’ landmark album.

After a stellar debut, the Shins continued their excellent chart-performing streak with the rest of their studio efforts. The band released their sophomore album, Chutes Too Narrow, in 2003. The record entered the top 100 of the Billboard 200 and broke into the U.K.’s mainstream chart. In 2007, the Shins dropped their most successful studio record, Wincing the Night Away. Landing at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, the album is the band’s highest-charting release. Wincing the Night Away featured the singles “Phantom Limb,” “Australia,” “Turn On Me,” and “Sea Legs.”

After the success of their third album, the Shins released the follow-up album, Port of Morrow. Preceded by the hit singles “Simple Songs” and “It’s Ony Life,” the fourth studio effort peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at number 1 on the Top Tastemakers Album. Moreover, Port of Morrow also entered the charts in 15 other countries. The Shins’ latest album, Heartworms, was released in 2017. The effort also saw moderate chart success, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard 200.
